Welcome to Fourth grade and the Middle school. This is going to be an exciting year for all of us. I have been teaching for a long time and I still get so excited at the beginning of the year. I realize that you are allowing me to care for your child/children which are the most important people in your life, therefore I promise to do everything in my power to help your child have a successful year. The other fourth grade teachers and I will be working to make fourth grade a year your child will never forget.
My belief about teaching is that if children are engaged and having fun they are learning more. I realize I am competing with T.V., computers, and video games, so I use many techniques that will make your child excited about school. Don't be deceived that the fun we are having is not work. I have very high expectations for your child. Your child will start off and continue to learn study skills and organization skills that will continue to help them throughout their school career.
The school provides all of the basic supplies that your child will need, but they must be shared. You might want to send in a glue stick, scissors, ruler, colored pencils and/or crayons, or extra pencils. I will have folders and notebook paper for your child in our classroom! To see a full list of school supplies go to my website at; http://mrskoupalsclass.weebly.com/
Your child will receive their first vocabulary list next Monday. This list will consist of 10 words. This is their spelling and vocabulary list. We will work with these words for two weeks before we test on Friday. The test will consist of spelling, explaining what the word means, and using it in a sentence with at least six words. Your child will do these assignments on the Spelling City website at: http://www.spellingcity.com/
If your child is going to have a successful year we must communicate and I am trying to make it as convenient as possible. Follow the instructions on the handout provided for Dojo.com. Please know that I do not do the Dojo positive and negative behavior everyday. I use Dojo more for reminders of test and special thing going on in the classroom. I also like to put pictures of what your child is doing in the classroom. At the beginning of each month you will receive a calender of all the activities for the month. I give each child two: one for your refrigerator and the other should be in the front of their notebook.

I am looking forward to successful and busy year. Welcome to fourth grade.
